If you are a bourbon guy like me you may not recognize Murray McDavid. They are a really interesting brand. They are basically an NDP in the Scotch world. They buy up barrels from other brands and then age them in their warehouse and/or finish them in second barrels. Unlike many typical Scotch brands, they will often release them at cask strength and unfiltered, the way we bourbon drinkers like it. Unlike in most of the world of bourbon where NDAs often prevent brands from naming their sources, Scotch NDPs like Murray McDavid often name the source distillery…well most of the time. Funny story, they bought a bunch of barrels (casks) from Laphroaig but they couldn’t get permission to name the distillery so they call them “Leapfrog” 🐸🤣. One of the bottles on the pour list is a “Leapfrog”!
The oldest whisky I have is a Murray McDavid Invergordon 50 Year Old single grain Scotch 1972 – Mission Gold that I got from MasterOfMalt.com . It was distilled back in 1972 and aged for a staggering 50 years in a single bourbon cask. Only 129 bottles were produced.
If you love Scotch and want to expand your palate or if you are a bourbon drinker and want to experience more Scotch, then I highly recommend checking this tasting out!
