SUMMARY:MurLarkey Whiskey Round Table
DESCRIPTION:MurLarkey is a craft distillery in Manassas\, Virginia. They are holding a tasting event on Thursday\, August 13 at 6:00 PM. The cost $100/ person. Here are the details from MurLarkey: \nOn Thursday\, August 13 at 6:00 PM\, Head Distiller Kevin Szady will host the MurLarkey Whiskey Round Table\, an intimate guided tasting featuring five exceptional whiskies and bourbons\, including select aged expressions and limited releases. \nFor this evening\, Kevin will also be pulling from a private collection of bottles and barrel selections that are not generally available to the public. In other words\, this is not the standard tasting lineup. \nKevin will walk guests through each pour\, sharing the craftsmanship\, techniques\, decisions\, and occasional bit of distiller stubbornness that shaped it. \nThis is not a lecture\, and there will not be a quiz. \nIt is an evening for great whiskey\, thoughtful conversation\, and the chance to learn what makes each expression distinct from someone who has spent years waiting patiently for wood and whiskey to become something better together. \nComplimentary small bites and light snacks will be served alongside the tasting. \nSpace is limited. \nThursday\, August 13 \n6:00 PM \nMurLarkey Distilled Spirits \n9861 Discovery Boulevard\, Manassas\, Virginia \nReserve your seat here: https://murlarkey.com/products/whiskey-roundtable

SUMMARY:Angel's Share Charity Bottle Drawings
DESCRIPTION:The Angel’s Share Charity Bottle Drawings are Back! \nThere are some important changes to how they will be run moving forward. \nWhat has not changed: \n100% of the money raised still goes directly to animal rescues. Every entry is still just $5\, and you can enter as many times as you would like. If your name is drawn more than once\, you will have the opportunity to select more than one bottle. \nHere is what has changed: \nWe will no longer be doing the large January and July drawings where you choose which specific bottle your $5 entry goes toward. Instead\, we will have monthly drawings and keep an ongoing list of all bottles being set aside to raise money for the rescues listed below. \nEach month\, they will draw: \n4 winners for the Angel’s Share Bottles \nThese winners will be able to choose from any bottle listed under “Angel’s Share Bottles” and purchase it at retail. \n2 winners for the Donated Bottles \nThese winners will be able to choose from any bottle listed under “Donated Bottles” and win it outright. \nWinners will select their bottles in the order their names are drawn. \nAs new allocated & donated bottles arrive for the charity drawings\, we will continue adding them to the lists. \nWhen you select which bottles you are donating towards and click the link\, you will be taken to a private donation page at Senior Dog Sanctuary. You will be donating directly to them\, and your donations are tax-deductible. \nSupporting Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland \nANGEL’S SHARE RETAIL BOTTLES\nclick here for retail entries \n\nBLACK MAPLE HILL SMALL BATCH BOURBON 487.99\nBLANTONS GOLD 149.99\nBLANTONS STRAIGHT FROM THE BARREL 129 PROOF 171.99\nBROOK HILL 13YR RYE ” 132.36 PROOF 341.99\nBROOK HILL 15YR BOURBON 133.66 PROOF 584.99\nCOLONEL E.H. SUMMARY:Rice Market - Japanese Whisky Spotlight : Suntory Retrospective
DESCRIPTION:Rice Market\n1608 14th St NW\nWashington\, DC 20009\n\nPrice: $184.60/person\n\nThe Japanese whisky market has evolved dramatically over the past 15 years. Our past Japanese whisky nights at Rice Market have featured young producers that have taken advantage of the recent global explosion of popularity of Japanese whisky. The current boom is largely attributable to 2014 when whisky writer Jim Murray identified a limited release Yamazaki Sherry Cask as the best whisky in the world. Since then\, demand sky rocketed which led to higher prices\, depleted stocks\, and a significant sea change in the way Japanese whisky is produced and perceived. \nThat Yamazaki Sherry Cask was part of a series of releases in the early 2010s referred to as the Wood Collection that highlighted different components of Suntory’s main distilleries Yamazaki and Hakushu. These included Heavily Peated\, Bourbon Barrel\, Puncheon\, Mizunara\, and the famed Sherry Cask expressions for both distilleries. \nThis tasting will feature several of the Wood Collection releases from 2013 and 2014. These were readily available and relatively affordable before the whisky world turned its collective eye to Japan\, but are extremely difficult to find now. And the current iteration of this series\, the Tsukuriwake Series\, is vastly more expensive. \nJoin us for the first hour of the evening for a guided taste of six of the original Suntory Wood Collection. The tasting will feature: \n\nYamazaki Puncheon 2013\nYamazaki Bourbon Barrel 2013\nYamazaki Heavily Peated 2013\nHakushu Bourbon Barrel 2013\nHakushu Heavily Peated 2013\nHakushu Sherry Cask 2014\n\nFollowing the guided tasting\, the evening will transition to an open house where each of these and additional limited edition Suntory and Nikka expressions will be available by the dram. These will include long discontinued age stated expressions. \nTICKETS

They are a really interesting brand. They are basically an NDP in the Scotch world. They buy up barrels from other brands and then age them in their warehouse and/or finish them in second barrels. Unlike many typical Scotch brands\, they will often release them at cask strength and unfiltered\, the way we bourbon drinkers like it. Unlike in most of the world of bourbon where NDAs often prevent brands from naming their sources\, Scotch NDPs like Murray McDavid often name the source distillery…well most of the time. Funny story\, they bought a bunch of barrels (casks) from Laphroaig but they couldn’t get permission to name the distillery so they call them “Leapfrog” 🐸🤣. One of the bottles on the pour list is a “Leapfrog”! \nThe oldest whisky I have is a Murray McDavid Invergordon 50 Year Old single grain Scotch 1972 – Mission Gold that I got from MasterOfMalt.com . It was distilled back in 1972 and aged for a staggering 50 years in a single bourbon cask. Only 129 bottles were produced. \nIf you love Scotch and want to expand your palate or if you are a bourbon drinker and want to experience more Scotch\, then I highly recommend checking this tasting out! \nGET TICKETS
